After traveling so many hours from Taiwan, we finally arrived in Burgas, Bulgaria to attend the BIMC 2013. Last year, I also attended TAIMC but in an international team. Although it was of great honor to be in an international team of TAIMC, I still hoped that one day I can participate in this competition with a Taiwan team. Another meaningful point is that this is the first time for a European country to hold IMC. Therefore, I look forward to BIMC very much.
My first impression of Burgas is a beautiful, quiet and peaceful village. People here are unsophisticated and have a slow and relaxed life. By sports celebration, parade, sightseeing…… we knew more about this village. In my memory, it is a comfortable place to live in, there are natural sights, refreshing climate and simple life which are different from those in Taiwan.
A special point of IMC is that it is not only a platform for students from different countries to compete with each other but it also provided an opportunity for students to learn about how to work as a team. Also, BIMC not only improved our mathematic abilities but we could also meet people from different nations, religions and ways of lives. There were several activities like puzzles challenge and culture night, helping us to make friends with each other.
I think the best parts of BIMC are sports celebration and parade. There were two new activities which were only held in Burgas. In sports celebration, Taiwan team had participated in beach football, beach volleyball, tug-of-war and water carrying. Although we lost the match against Mexico, but we all had fun in it and we made friends with Mexican students. During the parade, every country wore their own religions’ clothing. Since, we had many different cultures in Taiwan, we had been divided into three groups with different clothing. I think Taiwan would be famous in Burgas since we had special clothing and the loudest sound which kept yelling about “GO! GO! TAIWAN!” Moreover, many Burgas children had received our national flag. However, the part which made me unhappy is that our team got third highest score overall in team contest, but we were also third place in our group. With our grade, we can easily get a champion in other groups, which meant the best teams were all in our group!
I had learned a lot of things by attending BIMC, not only mathematics skills but also friendship and cooperation, different cultures and ways of lives…… I made a lot of new friends from different countries. I like our team guide the best because he took us to different places in Burgas and we had a lot of fun. I will always remember this unforgettable memory and thank for everyone who helped us in BIMC 2013.
